I can answer question 1. To read downloaded fanfiction, or any other pdf/epub, you need a reader app. I personaly use the free version of ReadEra because it's the best I've found in terms of range of file formats, general functionality, and ease of use. Hey, good to hear. If you're also reading on a Linux laptop have a look at Foliate which is also a very good reader. If you set the epub/azw3/mobi default to open in Foliate then you can also open books from Calibre in Foliate. Source: about 2 years ago
