If this is just for entertainment purposes, have a look into software-defined radio (SDR). Receive-only units start at about $30, add another $10 and you get a kit with some cables and a couple different antennas (or make/use your own). The software is free--there are several choices ranging from SDR# ("SDR Sharp", which is one of if not the most popular for Windows) to SDR++, SDRTrunk, or Unitrunker--plug...
