People have mentioned backing up your hard drive first. This is certainly possible — I've done that in the past, and successfully restored when Windows became corrupted. Back up your hard drive onto an external drive (such as a USB drive). I used to use Clonezilla, but it isn't user-friendly. There are plenty of alternatives such as Redo Backup.
