Thanks for the HN treatment. As a followup piece, a Google response of this being "a bug". Followup story, my return rate for CC licensed images of "dog" went from 3 to 13. Last time I've checked, Creative Commons had their own search for things under their licenses. If you're in to trying to catch them from land, arm yourself with information. If you have a Facebook account, join "Whale Sightings in the San Juan Islands". Look at an AIS site (example: marinetraffic.com) and search for whale watching boats. Familiarize yourself with the public areas for whale watching (Lime Kiln, County Park, Cattle Point, etc).
