  • The Mechanics of Distributed Tracing in OpenTelemetry
OpenTelemetry is an open-source observability framework that provides mechanisms for creating and sending traces, metrics, and logs. It consists of various elements such as protocols for transmission and SDKs for different programming languages. In this article, we will explore how OpenTelemetry achieves distributed tracing. - Source: dev.to / 1 day ago
  • Peeling the MongoDB Drivers Onion
The preferred method of observing internal behavior would be through standardized logging once it is available in all drivers (DRIVERS-1204), however until that time only event logging is consistently available. In the future additional observability tooling such as Open Telemetry support may also be introduced. - Source: dev.to / 10 days ago
  • Taming the Multi-Headed Beast: Maintaining SDKs in Production for Years
Our first approach was to implement a separate SDK for each independent technology stack. We decided to use OpenTelemetry which is widely adopted and covers most of our needs. - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago
  • On Implementation of Distributed Protocols
Distributed system administrators need mechanisms and tools for monitoring individual nodes in order to analyze the system and promptly detect anomalies. Developers also need effective mechanisms for analyzing, diagnosing issues, and identifying bugs in protocol implementations. Logging, tracing, and collecting metrics are common observability techniques to allow monitoring and obtaining diagnostic information... - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago
  • Enhancing API Observability Series (Part 3): Tracing
When choosing distributed tracing tools, considerations include your technology stack, business requirements, and monitoring complexity. Zipkin, SkyWalking, and OpenTelemetry are popular distributed tracing solutions, each with its unique features. - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago

  • why was Compose on Kubernetes discontinued? what to use instead?
Like the title says, https://github.com/docker/compose-on-kubernetes is no longer maintained, with no explanation why or recommendations on what to use instead. I've briefly looked at Kompose as an alternative, but I don't like how it's a converter. I'd like the source of truth to exist inside a single, simple YAML file, like a docker-compose file.
