I know exactly what you mean: de-scrambling sentences and lists because of those damn columns sucks, but being blind, and with relatively few pdf, text, doc, etc, or interactive cyoas, it's complicated. My experience is, the drive to doc technique is probably the best, but onlineocr.net isn't bad either: on really hard conversions, I use both.
