Netflix seems to provide an app for Windows Laptops to watch titles offline. Get a Kill-A-Watt, or something similar and start seeing how much power those things draw. My mini fridge uses about 400 watts per day. Rather than getting a coffee pot, get a french press and a good thermos. And instead of the tv and dvd player, can you just have a couple of tablets instead? They use far less power. Netflix, Hulu (and probably others) offer portions of their content offline. If you have the right subscription, you can download the titles you want ahead of time to your laptop, iPad, etc. & watch them later on your deployment w/out having to rely on wifi. Source: almost 2 years ago
Any streaming service has some hidden downsides, Netflix is no exception. I've had decent success tracking down titles with Reelgood (https://reelgood.com/), which is basically a streaming aggregator. Also, it's not streaming but I actually got about a dozen Vinegar Syndrome and Partner Label titles on disc from my local library. Source: 11 months ago

I moved from Roku to Chrome cast with googletv to use deep linking that most devices are no longer supporting. I use the reelgood.com app on my cell or website on my laptop to cast. I also use justwatch.com to open shows/movies to open the app you select to stream from. Source: about 1 year ago
