I would try renting first and when you are happy where you are and with your job for awhile consider getting a new homebuyers loan. Also, you need to work on your credit for that to happen. Call a bank and ask about a prepaid credit card. Then use that card to pay a small monthly bill (3-7% of the allotted credit) that you can have taken straight out of your checking account (at that same bank or a different one).... Tough choice between Minneapolis and Portland. I'd stay away from DC personally. I love it here in Minnesota, but have friends just outside Portland who like it there as well. Both areas have good schools in the suburbs and are great cities. I have googled this and read stuff on taxslayer.com and can't find a direct answer to this. I know I can file business income on taxslayer for IRS, but I still don't know if I can do it for state.
