  • So, how do you get music for your self-hosted server?
This should help substantially: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 13 days ago
  • "Unacceptable": Spotify bricking Car Thing devices in Dec. without refunds
No need to use the server, Navidrome allows any client to connect remotely (WAN included) and play music that is hosted on the server. It also can be set up to transcode on the fly uncompressed music when it is accessed from a metered connection to minimize bandwidth usage. I barely scratched its surface, but it looks promising. The only requirement is that it needs the correct metadata to identify songs and... - Source: Hacker News / 28 days ago
  • Mp3tag – The Universal Tag Editor
I highly recommend Musicbrainz Picard: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/ It will match against the Musicbrainz database and will acoustically ID your files, so the tags can be completely wrong. Just dump folders of albums into the client, it will group and sort things and ID them. It works great. - Source: Hacker News / 28 days ago
  • Fans quitting Spotify to save their love of music (2022)
Have you tried https://www.funkwhale.audio/? It can be used effectively as a "private spotify". Labeling is a solved problem thanks to https://picard.musicbrainz.org/, and the fact that a lot of the music you buy these days comes pre-labeled already. You then have a web-app (and/or a mobile app, if that's your thing) where you can stream music as you would with Spotify. You can even build yourself a little... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • What do you use to tag your music on an NAS (Unraid)?
I use picard for my collection. My work flow is Picard > Lyrics Finder > Foobar for BPM, RealGain and DR > Custom python script to pull genre and mood from Last.FM and spotify> then Advanced Renamer to perform naming clean up of folder names. I lowercase and underscore spaces. Also does files if I happen to need Mp3Tag when Picard doesn't find anything. Once this is done I move files on to may NAS. Source: 6 months ago

  • Reverse-engineering a weird video file
An audio stream encoded as Vorbis, at 48000 samples per second, in stereo audio. - Source: dev.to / about 2 years ago
  • Maximum bitrate of ogg/vorbis
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but I've seen ogg/vorbis bitrates in excess of 128 kbps mentioned in several places (supposedly Spotify can stream vorbis at a maximum of 320 kbps), while the xiph.org foundation states that the maximum bitrate per channel is 128 kbps. Assuming that for typical stereo audio this comes to 256 kbps, what is the meaningful comparison with something like e.g. Mp3 at 320 kbps?... Source: about 3 years ago
  • Loading Audio in Node JS
But what about audio file formats like mp3, ogg, and flac? The difference between these formats and wav is that the audio is compressed on disk. Mp3 and ogg are what's called "lossy" compression - that means they change the actual sound in ways that are hopefully imperceptible to most listeners in order to get better compression. flac, meanwhile, is a format that implements lossless compression. This means that it... - Source: dev.to / about 3 years ago
