  • The grid isn’t ready for 300M EVs by 2030
Upgrading the power lines isn't the full answer, certainly some upgrades will be required, but the wires are designed for peak demand. EVs have flexibility, and can mostly be charged in non-peak times, drastically reducing the powerline and power station upgrades required. This flexibility has to be managed, and there are many companies working on this. For example: https://ev.energy/. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago

  • Home Charger Installation Advice
I imagine some of your cost is the need to have an outdoor capable plug. At this point I'd be very tempted to get a charger and get it hardwired (why add a plug that is just another point to fail in the elements). Generally the cables are longer, you can get more data about your charging. I'm getting a rebate from National Grid for charging off hours via ev.energy (in Massachusetts) but it requires certain cars... Source: about 1 year ago
