Also, I heard from my friend, that his DAC is a Pangolin FB3. If you have a licence to the Beyond software, then you can use the modulaser app to interface with MIDI. It sounds like it's exactly what I need, and is only $100 (free trial). It was a bummer when I heard that the Beyond license is $700. The cyclops is specifically for the modular domain, but it looks like there are other laser DAC's which might do something similar. The pdf manual ( https://audiokitpro.com/manual-for-synth-one/ )for the iOS synth “Synth One” by AudioKit ( https://audiokitpro.com/synth/ )is basically the textbook for the synth & sound design classes taught at Austin Community College. It was written by their main synth guy, Francis Preve. Worth a download of the manual even if you’re not using the app, since it covers some decent ground. Source: about 1 year ago
