  • making sequencers/synths talk to lasers?
Also, I heard from my friend, that his DAC is a Pangolin FB3. If you have a licence to the Beyond software, then you can use the modulaser app to interface with MIDI. It sounds like it's exactly what I need, and is only $100 (free trial). It was a bummer when I heard that the Beyond license is $700. I read that modulaser isn't compatible with the cheaper Pangolin software that my friend uses, because it doesn't... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Laser music! Here the laser is modulated by an audio source, and then shone onto a solar panel to convert back to an electrical (audio) signal and you can hear the original input into the laser!
The cyclops is specifically for the modular domain, but it looks like there are other laser DAC's which might do something similar. Depends where the audio source you want to drive the laser with is coming from I guess, but heres a computer based option https://modulaser.app. Source: almost 3 years ago

  • Suggestions on good textbooks
The pdf manual ( https://audiokitpro.com/manual-for-synth-one/ )for the iOS synth “Synth One” by AudioKit ( https://audiokitpro.com/synth/ )is basically the textbook for the synth & sound design classes taught at Austin Community College. It was written by their main synth guy, Francis Preve. Worth a download of the manual even if you’re not using the app, since it covers some decent ground. Source: about 1 year ago
  • I think I realized I'm a hobbyist and not an enthusiast?
If you have an iPhone I would also recommend installing https://audiokitpro.com/synth/ and reading this fantastic manual https://audiokitpro.com/manual-for-synth-one/ which teaches general snyth concepts. Source: over 1 year ago
