An alternative to jitsi would be mirotalk - browser based webRTC, selfhosted, some HTML edit to your personal favour (and to delete statistics-scripts) and you are fine. But Moxie has built a very successful company, without the need for VCs, and the tech is used by many big tech companies. Several use the signal protocol.
