I've looked briefly into this project before. I don't think it's good news, but why is anyone surprised? Nobody wants to pay for open source. Companies want it for free, and individuals don't have enough luxury time to be able to do it themselves. The most successful one I have right now is writing streak. The old version of the app grew to 5000+ users mostly via word of mouth. I don't think many of them were very active, since I didn't do a good job supporting and debugging the app (because of my health stuff, and also some character flaws I guess). But it did have a few users who used it daily for hundreds of days in a row. Source: about 2 years ago
