  • What are your New Build essentials?
I have a script that installs Homebrew and App Store CLI. Then it automatically installs most of the apps I need. I use homebrew to create an up to date list for this script. Source: 11 months ago

  • How to easily migrate Homebrew formulas to another MacBook?
I mainly use the Homebrew to manage almost every app or program, even apps on the App Store using mas. It becomes a bit of a pain when I set up a new MacBook because it takes time for me to look for the list of the apps and programs on my main MacBook and install one them by one on my new MacBook. - Source: dev.to / about 1 year ago
  • Questions about MacOS
Most of my workflow could replicated under Mac. For the "horrible" window management I use amethyst (auto tiling) and Magnet (windows like) for search I use raycast and for software management I do use the cli with homebrew, mas and ports. The cool thing with homebrew cask you can install all programms from the web that aren't in the App Store and the App Store apps will be updated via mas. You can even update... • Similar to for Veeam for Apple OS X?
Instead, perhaps consider file based backups, and reloading apps. For example, you can have a shell script that can fetch Homebrew, from there, fetch most non-App Store apps with brew install commands, and for App Store apps, use mas for those. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Attemping to upgrade internal ssd by cloning internal ssd through 'restore' in DiskUtility. It's not letting me click the drop down in "restore from". Any help to move forward?
I would forget about using the Disk Utility Restore function and download a 30 trial copy of Carbon Copy Cloner which can clone your internal SSD to the new external one. Just be advised you will need to use the Legacy option to make the clone since the default CCC cloning function now is “Data Only”. To select the legacy option Click on the Destination selector and choose "Legacy Bootable Copy Assistant". Source: 10 months ago

  • ThinMachine – A $25 Thin Client macOS Time Machine Appliance
My advice to retain your sanity: stop using Time Machine and use Carbon Copy Cloner [0] instead. It works. It keeps working. It has excellent documentation for any possible backup and restore cases. It is transparent about what it is doing. Time Machine works fine until it doesn't. And it won't tell you that a backup is broken until you try to restore from it. The errors are going to be cryptic. There is going to... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
