Tech people don't use rsync or FTP because those are terrible solutions. FTP is insecure and requires setting up a server. Rsync requires an account on both machines. I use wormhole to transfer data quickly all the time. I assume it's good, but have not looked into it too much. The developers claim the data is encrypted, and you can read more about it here.
