  In regards to OP’s question, lately I’ve been digging through genre specific sub-Reddits. There are tonnes of people out there who are absolutely obsessive about their love of certain artists. If I’m digging someone’s taste, I might go look at their comment history to see what else they like.   As for music, I use a spotify premium account to do a remote listening session. It's been my best solution so far. A friend of mine uses watch2gether.com, its a great free option to integrate music and video streaming. It's not ideal for a whole host of reasons, if you ask me, but it IS free and simple.
