Let's not forget that runtime revolution, now called Livecode (https://livecode.com/) still exists and is likely the functional, modern successor to HyperCard. Hypercard Stacks as far as I remember work out of the box too. LiveCode [1] (formerly open source, now closed) can open HyperCard stacks and is compatible with round 85% of the native syntax - so some things will work, and some bits will need rewriting. There are in-memory databases such as H2 which you can use for testing that is just a library you import. However, syntax can vary between databases. So it's only really appropriate if you're also using something like Hibernate which abstracts away a lot of the differences. Source: over 2 years ago
