I just found out about it yesterday, but doesn't that have some privacy issues, as you are literally giving permission to a third party service to track the songs you are listening to. I found some open source self-hostable alternatives like listenbrainz or libre.fm but I don't know how do they perform compared to the proprietary last.fm. Source: over 2 years ago

Next we go to SongShift Pro and setup our shift. You'll need to setup connectors with Apple Music and your second last.fm account, that it setup in libre.fm. Load your music. Spotify and apple music won't work here; the best thing to have is mp3s and wavs on your computer. If you don't, search Soundcloud and Bandcamp for "[genre] free download" and you can find a bunch of absolutely free music, legally. Find maybe ten songs you like, download 'em, and come back.
