We found annotate.net as a pretty good "replacement" for Smart Ink. There's a free version, "full" trial as well if you wanted to test it out. Cost is minimal for a site license in addition. We signed up for annotate.net and it seems to work well on the Promethean Boards for writing over things like docs and slides. I believe it doesn't stay as an overlay like the built in board software, so I think it's good for some teachers to bring into the mix. Source: over 2 years ago
