Hadn't heard of this (https://kdenlive.org/en/). Thank you! - Source: Hacker News / 27 days ago
"Regular" people don't really need FFMPEG. Regular people need tools with GUIs that have a non-generic purpose. So stuff like https://kdenlive.org/en/ that are backed by ffmpeg are (imo) superior "regular" person tools. FFMPEG isn't complicated (its as complicated as any other CLI tool), it's that video encoding/decoding specifically is a hard problem space that you have to explicitly learn to better understand... - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
Great that you got it to work. Just to make the list with potential tools a bit more complete: - Kdenlive is also a fairly capable video editor. https://kdenlive.org/en/ - From what I have heard the Blender video editor for many people is a go to tool as well. Also yes its from the official site, I can't even find a copy or fake site when... Source: over 1 year ago
The best direct replacement for After Effects in terms of workflow I have seen is HitFilm. There's a free version with paid add-ons. https://fxhome.com/. Source: over 1 year ago
HitFilm Express is a pro level editor similar to DaVinci Resolve and according to this thread on their forums you can use their pay what you want model to get the option to export HDR video in ProRes or Cineform using more than 8-bit color spaces for true HDR. Worth checking out for your needs. Source: almost 2 years ago
Motion Design Blender: https://www.blender.org/ Hitfilm Express/Pro: https://fxhome.com/ (Free version with Hitfilm Express that, in my opinion, is rather limited unless you purchase some addons or the Pro version) Fusion: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/ (Feature complete free version with an optional paid version that lifts some restritions and adds a couple of effects).
