  • Save/export iMessages from a friend, but remove them from my Phone?
Hello and sorry for your loss. The is an application for macOS called iMazing which allows you to make archives of your messages (and has a lot of other functionality). It’s a paid app with pricing ranging from one device to multiple. Hope it helps. Https://imazing.com/backup-iphone-ipad. Source: 11 months ago
  • i want to backup broken iphone to mac but i can't type in the password to trust the computer
iMazing can create backups of iPhone.. Unknown if it needs input on iPhone to verify trust as I has been a while for me since using it for backup iOS.. Source: about 1 year ago
  • How can you automatically backup your iphone to a truenas server?
I haven't gotten this far yet, but, was going to look into https://imazing.com/backup-iphone-ipad. Still setting up other things first. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Self hosted alternative to iCloud?
I believe iCloud is for backing up and syncing iDevices. He (your friend/family?) can configure what is, or is not, backed up to iCloud. He could, for example, remove photos from being backed up if he would prefer to reduce the amount of space needed. I would recommend against him replacing iCloud completely because it also is essential for restoring an iDevice that has been lost or stolen. The only other... Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Show HN: I built a website to share files and messages without any server
I've got another one on topic of self-hosted file sharing: - FileBrowser running in Docker (https://filebrowser.org/features) - Syncthing running in another container (https://syncthing.net/) Syncthing keeps the files on your PC, Mac, BSD systems updated, and FileBrowser can point to the share and supply a convenient web UI. It works for me, it's kind of like a local Dropbox-lite. - Source: Hacker News / 25 days ago

  • Ask HN: Best useful tools that are helpful in your business?
We use syncthing to share files between our machines. It avoids is having to use dropbox / OneDrive etc. You just choose a folder and it automatically syncs it in the background. https://syncthing.net/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • LocalSend: Open-source, cross-platform file sharing to nearby devices
This very hn entries is bust contradicting your statement. Also what about syncthing[1] (for recurrent/permanent sync) and croc[2] (for one time copies) ? I have used both for a number of years already. [1] https://syncthing.net/ [2] https://github.com/schollz/croc. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Ask HN: How best to sync a subset of my files with a friend?
I would use syncthing, which is open source at https://syncthing.net/. After minimal setup, it just works(tm). You have a normal directory in your filesystem, that is synced to the other peers (which you set up in the "minimal setup"). I have been using it for years, and it works well. It has no problems crossing os'es (i.e. Windows -> linux, linux -> mac) For windows I usually recommend - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
