I'd say you either use the generated profile picture and the services you signed up for use the same generator, like this one: http://identicon.net/ or your email address is not set to private and they can find your account on GitHub (don't know why they would do that though). Well with simple API, plus your imagination the sky is your limit. While I was developing a login and signup page for another project, I was wondering I want the user to feel unique, I don't want to use empty user icon 👤 for the avatars.
