The issue is that files became corrupted, resulting in it needing to check the file system. If you have a hard drive enclosure, I would recommend using the enclosure to connect the drive to a computer, and running a drive diagnostic utility. Delete some things to get a bit of space, then download windirstat. This application scans your drive and provides a nice way to see your whole drive and what's taking up the most space.
