For programming ,apart from tutorials the thing that helps best is practice , If you want to practice then I recommend hackerrank.com to test your understanding of programming concepts.   Continuing the theme with APIs, APIs are a way to abstract the work away from the client by hiding the details and returning only the requested data. Some APIs only do silly things like provide a REST API for Kanye quotes. Some APIs are for account management.
