Most canon/mainstream media gets this hilariously wrong, too; see the thread somewhere in here about NCIS. Visual media, at least, has the (extremely thin) excuse that they need a visual representation of "hacking", hence the "desktop windows popping like bubbles" imagery for data deletion, or the hackertyper interfaces, but that's a stretch. Eggdrop [0] and BitchX [1] come to mind. Irssi [2] has a plugin that enables Tcl scripting. I'm currently fiddling with TkCAD [3] in order to put a small CNC machine to use here, it needs some small adaptations to work on Linux, but I find it a nice find!
