I use scrcpy with the Dex Dock and a dummy HDMI and connect wirelessly through tcpip to the dex instance. It smoothly runs at 50-60 fps (1080p), but I have capped it to 45fps since that's enough for my use case. If you're talking about Target Display Mode, I'm afraid your iMac does not support it. You can still use something like Air Display, although I'm not sure if it will help you achieve what you want. Source: over 2 years ago
