  • Chipsynth C64 is an emulation of the SID so good, it can replace hardware
I recently came across https://github.com/tildearrow/furnace Super impressive tracker for many different 8 bit synth chips. As a personal project I'm also embarking on a 4x AY-3-8910 chip synthnall hooked up to as esp32-s3. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago

  • What Garageband instruments could emulate SNES sounds?
Maybe you also just want “generic old console sound” but I’m going to try to be more on target here. • Anyway, how about your best tracker?
My favorite tracker in my opinion is Furnace. It supports many systems, from the PC speaker to to the most recent FM soundcards. It also has a customizable interface and is fully DefleMask compatible. It's completely free too! Link to Furnace Tracker. Source: over 1 year ago

It has an unlimited free trial with no restrictions, but a full license is $80 per FULL POINT RELEASE. That is: if you pay at v3.2, you don't pay again until v4.2. I paid once in 2012 and still haven't paid again yet. So it's cheap. But it's also fully featured, and surprisingly powerful. It's got a scary UI and... Source: almost 2 years ago

There's plenty of software available for PC so it's easy to try out if tracker workflow is your thing :P I think Renoise is the most popular and most powerful tracker and there's a free demo available in https://renoise.com. Source: over 2 years ago
