Freemcserver.net is really good, it stays online for 24 hours which is much better than 5 minutes on aternos. Litterally just once every day to renew. COMPLETELY FREE! You can also use plugins and still have a lot of RAM. Btw I am not advertising. Source: over 1 year ago

I've used aternos for a long time and it gives 2.5gb ram but it doesnt allow carpet mod, so I switched to freemcserver.net a few months ago but the thing is it only give 1gb ram for free and server mostly runs on 10-15 tp. I don't know about Cuberite server. I'd be worried about gamplay, you would also need a proxy for supporting newer versions, but that wouldn't be practical either. Source: almost 2 years ago
