As another bonus episode to my recent Sid Meier's Colonization HD tour video I posted here I thought it would be fun to check out the FreeMars project which is basically Colonization combined with classic Civilization Mars scenarios. Also has some slight Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri influences there as well I think however it mostly feels like Colonization but on Mars! It's fully playable and very stable but sadly... There are many other commercial projects similar to this (colonist.io landover.io etc). None of them are open source though. This has been done in the past extensively (see freeciv.org, or Terasology, or 0 AD etc). Source: 6 months ago
