Fping (open source) features and specs

  • Speed
Fping is designed to send out multiple ICMP Echo Requests in parallel, allowing it to quickly scan large numbers of hosts compared to traditional ping commands.
  • Scripting Friendly
Fping is suitable for use in shell scripts due to its output format, making it useful for automated network monitoring and management tasks.
  • IPv4 and IPv6 Support
Fping supports both IPv4 and IPv6, providing flexibility for various network environments.
  • Customizable Options
It offers a wide range of options for setting the number of pings, intervals, and timing, allowing users to tailor the tool to suit specific needs.
  • Resource Efficiency
Fping consumes fewer system resources compared to some GUI-based network tools, making it ideal for running on servers and low-power devices.

Possible disadvantages of Fping (open source)

  • Command-Line Interface Only
Fping does not have a graphical user interface, which may make it less accessible to users who are not familiar with command-line operations.
  • Advanced Configuration Complexity
While it is highly configurable, the range of options and parameters can be overwhelming for new users who may not have a deep understanding of networking.
  • Limited To Echo Requests
Fping is designed specifically for ICMP Echo Requests, limiting its usefulness for scenarios that require more in-depth network diagnostics.
  • Lack of Built-In Analysis
Unlike some more comprehensive network monitoring tools, Fping does not include features for detailed analysis and visualization of network data.
  • Potential Security Restrictions
Some networks may have security policies that restrict the use of ICMP packets, which could limit Fping's effectiveness or even prevent it from functioning.

Ping Monitor features and specs

  • Real-time Monitoring
Ping Monitor provides real-time tracking of network devices, allowing users to quickly identify and address connectivity issues as they arise.
  • Alert Notifications
The software offers customizable alert notifications, enabling users to receive immediate updates via email or other channels when a network issue is detected.
  • Detailed Performance Reports
Users can access detailed performance reports and statistics, which are valuable for analyzing network reliability and troubleshooting historical issues.
  • Scalability
Ping Monitor is scalable and capable of monitoring a large number of devices, making it suitable for both small and large network environments.
  • User-friendly Interface
The software features an intuitive user interface that simplifies the configuration and management of monitoring tasks.

Possible disadvantages of Ping Monitor

  • Limited Advanced Features
Compared to more comprehensive network monitoring tools, Ping Monitor may lack some advanced features and functionalities for in-depth network analysis.
  • Windows-only
Ping Monitor is a Windows-based application, which means it is not natively available for other operating systems like macOS or Linux.
  • Cost
For larger networks or more extensive monitoring needs, the licensing cost might be a concern for some organizations compared to free or open-source alternatives.
  • Resource Intensive
Monitoring a large number of devices can lead to increased resource consumption, potentially affecting the performance of the host system.
  • Dependency on Network Health
As a basic monitoring tool, it heavily relies on network health to function properly. During severe outages, the tool might not be able to deliver timely alerts or accurate data.

All you can do is rule out your own equipment. It sounds like a connectivity problem though if your internet is dropping lately. I'd recommend setting up a ping check on your laptop (you can use EMCO or just the inbuilt command line tool on your laptop) - See if your internet (or network) drops out or if your latency (ping response time) fluctuates at the same time as you have Twitch issues on your PS5.
