I just do my pleasantries and then share the British Council Flashcards for Kids page https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/flashcards - I use them even with adults. I ask them to chose a topic, or I just choose 'Food' or 'Home' as a starting point. 2) If they are real beginners, whether they are adults or children, use some of these flashcards https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/flashcards and see if they can read the words and answer simple questions about the pictures. It's very easy to make, all you have to do is make an account on kahoot.com. Unfortunately there's some features that you have to pay to use :( but the basic multiple choice quiz game is free, and that's gone over very well in my SHS classes. Source: about 1 year ago
