Oh man, this is so interesting. I used to play a lot of infosec CTFs like OTW during my first year at university but now I do software dev (mostly security related products). At my last job we were building a malware sandbox over Qiling emulation engine. Adding support for emulating EVM smart contracts to that sandbox would be dope - I'm gonna ping my ex coworkers :P.
