Most small archives back in the day ran off of efiction (https://efiction.org/) I think. Or at least the ones I visited did. It seems miles easier than trying to set up ao3's software for yourself, though of course the search and tagging/categorizing functionalities aren't as robust. But it works for small archives. Goodreads.com allows you to browse recent releases. They have lists of books and a bit of code that can link you from one book to other similar books.
