  • General Discussion Thread - August 15, 2022
Https://ecologi.com/ does a subscription which allows you to donate to tree planting and carbon reduction schemes across the world. It's supposedly enough to make you carbon negative. I'd take that with a pinch of salt but it's definitely better than nothing. I think there are similar services out there but this is the one I use. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Carbon offsetting advice
Currently the best option I have found is to pay a monthly suscription to Ecologi. This is a dead easy option, but from what I can tell they plant a relatively non-biodiverse range of species primarily localised in Africa. It would be amazing to have a couple more options to take forward, especially if they are global as we have offices in each continent. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Supreme Court rules for coal-producing states, limits EPA's power to fight climate change
If you can, donate to organizations like Ecologi, or Climeworks, which are working on carbon sinking and avoidance. It's not much, but whenever I feel helpless, I give a bit more. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Trackmania and One Million Trees? I wonder...
They've partnered with Ecologi, who will plant the trees. They seem to plant trees in various locations around the world, as well as doing other projects to stop CO2 emission. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • [Game Thread] Missouri vs. Wake Forest (6:30 PM ET)
This season's Holiday Drive has definitely been more about learning the ropes of running it as a bona fide non-profit. Someone suggested we hook up Amazon Smile, so I did. Another user wanted to be able to do employer matching, so I signed us up for the clearing house his company used. We didn't expect the IRS to grand our 501(C)(3) status so quickly, so we kind of jumped right into it this year. It's been... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Anyone has experience with corporate volunteering? They just introduced it and it looks great to make an impact
The company I work for works with Benetivity. I report my volunteer hours, and the company makes a donation to "pay" for my time. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Hack the Change!
The hackathon is generously sponsored by Benevity, the Hunter Hub, Arcurve, Cisco, Lighthouse Labs, AltaML, and the Schulich School of Engineering. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Vim 9 has been released
Many employers use https://benevity.com/ to manage the charitable giving that employees can do. Benevity organizes (legit) nonprofits into like a big index, and allows employees to donate directly, using paypal, payroll deduction, cc, etc. depending on the employer, they can also match what an employee is donating, making it a big win for the nonprofit.
