  Well yeah, I mean no one forces you to use Explorer for file management under Windows. I'm an old-time Norton Commander user, and when Windows came around I switched to Total Commander.   On Mac there is (was?) Hazel, the closest thing on Linux is tfeldmann/organize: The file management automation tool., it uses Python. An alternative would be benjaminoakes/maid: Be lazy. Let Maid clean up after you, based on rules you define. Think of it as "Hazel for hackers"., but it uses Ruby, which I don't know. Source: over 2 years ago
