Have look at crypto.jobs once you learn the basics and understand how space works it's not that hard too much opportunities out there to be independent. If I was you with no money/on budget will fly back take normal job with no commitment and spend rest of time in studying and understanding space. Evan Henshaw-Plath apparently has a new project called planetary.social that uses a protocol called Scuttlebutt (which I've never heard of), which seems to be "open", but MIT licensed. Rooms are new and only manyverse supports them so far. The new rooms 2.0 is based on go-ssb and there is also a go-ssb pub. With planetary we use go-ssb in the ios app but the older js pubs in the cloud. Source: over 2 years ago
