Use a tool like https://coolors.co/ or https://mycolor.space/ to generate a nicer color scheme. The first one (as mentioned before) is not a good choice. The contrast it too great and causes some eye strain. Source: about 1 year ago

If you’re stuck I think starting with a color palette is always a great idea. https://mycolor.space. In terms of picking species what are your favorite animals and if you can’t choose it is absolutely OK to create a hybrid. My first fursona was a tiger-lynx.
