  • What Should a Novice Programmer Learn To Find a Good Job Quickly?
CodeGym is one of my favorite Core Java online courses. It’s very practice-oriented. There are more than 1,200 coding tasks with code validations and tips to help a student solve tasks. Also, it contains short lectures that cover all core Java topics (except lambdas, for the moment). - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • Super new to Java
I started learning it from their russian version (this course was originally written in Russian) but if English version is as good as Russian, then it's probably the best way to start learning java, as they have probably few thousands of exercises https://codegym.cc/. Source: over 1 year ago
  • In person coding/software engineering classes?
If you want to take a slightly longer, but imo easier path. I went from learning coding using https://codegym.cc/ to being a Software Quality Assurance Automation Engineer (current) and will eventually transition to BE Dev on my company's dime: At the last 3 companies I've been a QA Engineer at, there's always been a pipeline from QA -> Dev that the company is willing to work with you on. You could try something interactive CodeCademy to get them started, or something game-based like Code Combat or Code Gym. Alternatively, try finding any local groups or classes aimed at teens. Source: about 2 years ago

  • Games like Stone Story RPG
I have tried Screeps in the past, and I'm not a huge fan. I really like Stone Story, but they do not have an easy way to take your saves across multiple platforms -- you have to manually import/export your save. Source: 10 months ago
  • Helping a young coder
-For JavaScript, my advice would be to introduce coding games. That way it's more fun and the environment would be set up better (less worrying about deep technical errors). The two games that come to mind are Bitburner (free) and Screeps (free offline/paid online), though they both have their own learning curves and require actual coding; so for a 9 year old YMMV greatly. • SpaceTraders: A multiplayer game built on a free web API
A good, existing example I'd like to show you is Screeps: https://screeps.com/ Personally, when I'm in the mindset of playing that game, I can't help but come back to my bot every 30 minutes to see if it's performing well. When I see that it's doing something strange, I take notes and can't stop thinking about possible solutions. When I'm not in the mood to play (i.e. Analyze the bot or program more... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago

I organised a small team to develop a screeps bot. Other teams made their own basic, but amusing game or explored interesting technologies. A few teams even worked on things related to the business. Source: about 1 year ago
