I like freeCodeCamp because they actually suffer from the opposite issue of being too hands-on with little of the deeper context that TOP gives. There is also a free "bootcamp" style shared walkthrough of the webdev/js content if that format is more motivating. Both are easy to find on classcentral.com. Source: over 3 years ago

My main criticism goes to the product itself. The idea of building an LMS came up after talking to several instructors. Although there are many LMSs on the market, many instructors have never considered using Moodle and ended up using paid products.
