XMPP messengers (e.g. Yaxim are distributed along lots of servers, so there's one entity who can decrypt your data. However, encryption takes a few extra steps (unlike Signal, which is automatic). Most people don't use XMPP apps, so it won't serve to contact most people. Source: 12 months ago
