I have two layers of filtering. Layer 1 is the "Subscription" layer like you mention. I also have a Layer 2 which is not all episodes of a Podcast are meaningful for me. Therefore, I don't listen to ALL episodes. A Podcast app like Castro is extremely beneficial in making an active decision to add a podcast to my queue [0]. i'm pretty partial to using podbay.fm as my podcast listening thing of choice . its free and while I haven't used the app much vs the web browser it seemed fine at first glance. you can also sort it in reverse which would be helpful for what your going for I guess. Source: over 1 year ago

I get their stuff from podbay.fm - the reason was because podbay was easier to sort from first to last episode, while Soundcloud always wanted me to listen to the most recent episode. Source: about 2 years ago
