  • Bandcamp's Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off
I would like to see something like Castopod [0], but for artists! Spinning up a website where you showcase and sell your music should (and could!) be as easy as using Wordpress, either via a subscription or self-hosted – on your own domain. Being plugged into the Fediverse makes it much easier to interact with fans and build a connection with your audience. It also makes it easy for people to share and talk about... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

  • Cheap Podcast File Hosting?
I'm planning on spinning up multiple podcasts. Since I'm quite good with webhosting I'm thinking of spinning up a cheap castopod.org instance instead of paying potentially a lot (in the future, if they happen to get downloaded a lot). Only problem of course is the traffic that comes from having to server every episode's files from a server, because cheap hosting generally has bandwith (and computational)... • Which Podcasting Aggregator do you use or recommend? How difficult is it, to change the podcasting platform later?
Https://castopod.org/ is software for you to download and host a podcast for yourself. Very capable and it does stats too. Source: almost 2 years ago

I switched to it many years ago anticipating this exact Google product shutdown, and I've been very happy with it :). - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

  • Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024
It's amazing how incompetent they seem in this area. They even shut down another podcast app before your journey began, called Google listen. Luckily, although you might want Google's proprietary music player to access their subscription content, there's absolutely no reason to use a Google podcast app. I am a fan of Antennapod[0], which is available on F-Droid. • Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024
Why anyone would use a proprietary podcasting app is beyond me! (Particularly one from Google with basically had a 100% chance of getting canceled....) https://antennapod.org/ is incredible! 10/10, highly recommend! - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
