Farewell, Google Maps
Some options we could reject quickly for various reasons. OpenStreetMap is not supposed to be directly used by commercial sites. Apple Maps, even though we wouldn't mind having Apple logo on our site somewhere, was just released as beta and requires Apple developer account to test properly.

  • Tips and guides for setting up a cloud-based GIS database with a web map component for someone with very limited IT background
I think CARTO would be perfect for this. It's basically just PostGIS in the cloud with a great interface. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Free for dev - list of software (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.)

  • Which GIS tool can provide an interface for box overlays such as this?
If you already / Once have your squares with data, then it's only displaying them on a map. QGIS2Web, Openlayers, Mapbox or CARTO can be some ways to start but if you want user interaction you'll probably have to code it yourself. Bokeh can probably be used for that too (Mapping geo data) but you'll probably have less liberty than in JS. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago

  • A more "exciting" https://openstreetmap.org would have made me sign up months earlier.
I assumed it was like Wikipedia, where the editing platform would also be the best viewing platform. While openstreetmap.org does not try to encourage this perspective, it does little to dissuade the assumption either. It's something of a dead end for new users. (at least for me, I might be a fringe use case.). - Source: Reddit / 8 days ago

#3: directions. Typing in a destination and hitting enter immediately picks the top search result, rather than finding destinations based on the starting point or user's current location. If I type in my home address, then type "walgreens" into the destination, I'll be given directions to a walgreens in a different state. Even though I should be impressed by how quickly turn-by-turn guidance is generated for a 7... - Source: Reddit / 8 days ago
  • Map of Downtown Land Taken Up by Surface Parking Lots
Yeah, looks like that isn’t marked as single-purpose in OpenStreetMap, which is where the data comes from. You’re right, there should be another blue and purple area there. - Source: Reddit / 12 days ago
  • Do you think the decor that a Pikmin picks up at level 4 is influenced by a predetermined area? For instance, if you grew a Pikmin next to/near a body of water on the map would it have a higher chance of getting a waterside decor?
Although, it's still depends on the openstreetmaps data. For example, I had a walk to a movie theatre, but when I loaded openstreetmap.org it was not a movie theatre. I almost used my detector for the day, good thing I did not. - Source: Reddit / 16 days ago
  • Thanks to my Apple Watch I managed to find a secret cave on my hike today!!
The watch didnt - however it does have the ability to show you points of interest. If you go to openstreetmap.org you can see what kind of details the app will show (it uses the same map). - Source: Reddit / 17 days ago
