Buttondown Reviews

Oh God, It's Raining Newsletters - by Craig Mod
Buttondown is a (somewhat) recently launched NAAS built by a very engaged developer, beautifully designed, that looks like it might be the new TinyLetter. Subscription integrations forthcoming (eating into Substack territory?). This is probably where I’d start if I were starting a public newsletter today.

  • Ask HN: How many of you are self employed?
Self-employed, running https://buttondown.email as a solo founder. (My day generally looks like — 30% engineering, 40% onboarding + support, 10% marketing, 20% operations.) It was a profitable nights-and-weekends project from 2017—2022; took it full-time in 2022. I think the thing that I would say about self-employment is that people understate the day-to-day flexibility and overstate the month-to-month... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Ask HN: Advice for turning my side project into a real business
I did this. I grew my project, Buttondown [https://buttondown.email] from high three figures to low five figures while doing it as a nights-and-weekends thing at Stripe and then quit to work on it full time. It was a great decision and I'm happy I did it! (I also did it, frankly, with significant runway in the bank if I needed it, and no dependents besides my wife so the tail risk of "this goes to zero and/or I... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

HireClub Coaching mentions (6)

  • Is it poor etiquette to connect with interviewer on LinkedIn to ask for feedback after rejection?
Most places will not give feedback because legal. If you want feedback on interviewing maybe sign up for some job coaching. There’s one I followed for many years called Hire Clubthat does resume review and interview prep. They’re a legit place. Not scammy like a lot of places that try to nickel and dime you. I do not (and have never) worked for them. The founder was a legit decent human who wanted to build a... Source: about 1 year ago

I used https://hireclub.com but I’m not sure if they are outside the US. If you went to university they may have a career coaching center for alumni. Or look for “career coaching” on LinkedIn or whatever is similar in CA & choose by good reviews. Source: over 1 year ago
