Maybe try Bitsbox? It teaches Javascript by making games. They can share the games with their friends, and it also leaves a lot of room for them to modify the games using what they learned. It teaches a lot of programming skills that are useful later. There is also Google's CS First, that's free and has a lot of different projects. Scratch is coding for kids. tynker.com is scratch but with an actual curriculum and it's paid. I'm looking to make an open source project that will be tynker but completely free, to encourage coding among kids.
