If you aren't using API Gateway (REST API to be specific) your options are a bit more limited. You can get some benefit from WAF, though it's not really designed to be tenant-based. AWS is blessed with an interesting problem: using AWS is widespread enough that it would be hard for them to guarantee a third-party hosting their status page did not depend on them in some way.
