  • Freelance Translator: How do I skip the agency and find the client?
Business and marketing skills are essential for being successful as a freelance translator, especially if you plan to try to get more direct clients. I know that Coursera, Udemy and Alison all have free/very cheap online courses in lots of things, including business and marketing. You should check them out! Source: 9 months ago
  • Tell me glow up tips I’ve never heard before
Not at all. I only use two websites for now: Alison and Udemy. Every course on Alison is free, the certificates have a cost but I don't need them so I don't buy them. I did an Excel course in one day I needed for work there, some customer support courses to add to the CV that landed me my current job and a course on Makeup Artistry for the vibes XD. Mango Languages might be good for them. Check with your library to see if you can get free access because it's free through many libraries. There's an app for it too. There's also Destinos for Spanish and NHK has a Japanese course. For ASL, there's ASL University. EdX and Alison have courses too, but they may be for an older audience. All of the ones I mentioned are free. Source: 12 months ago

  • How can I give myself a well rounded education as a middle aged woman?
*Great Courses (thegreatcourses.com) is fantastic. Lots of "crash courses" in all kinds of topics--exactly the kind of thing I think you are looking for--delivered by professors and subject matter experts. Many ways to plug into it: can subscribe directly on their website, there is an Amazon Channel for like $3/mo if you have Prime Video. I currently use Audible.com and purchase courses through there that I listen... Source: about 1 year ago

  • How can I stop being clueless and become more of an active listener when people are talking?
I used to have the same problem. After graduating college I realized there was a lot I still didn't know, so I started educating myself. I watched countless courses from thegreatcourses.com on science, religion, philosophy, history, etc among other things. I also listened to a lot of music, paying careful attention to words, mostly in the form of rap music, some of it really fast. That seemed to help me pick out... Source: about 2 years ago
  • Anyone else hate talking online?
I used to be really terrible with conversations. I spent a lot of time in chatrooms in my college years trying to gain more experience communicating. Then eventually I got these courses from thegreatcourses.com to educate myself on everything I felt like I just didn't know. Basically any time a topic in conversation would come up and I would feel left out, I put a placeholder in my head for that so I could go... Source: about 2 years ago
