My criteria is that it needs to be simple enough for a hobbyist programmer or non programmer to use, and yet powerful enough to do more than just click through stories. Being able to code it on a variety of platforms and play it on a variety of platforms is also a plus. If I can code it on my Kindle Fire using Acode, then it's something that I like.
