Most probably you’re getting the bad certificate error because it’s self-signed and the browser doesn’t trust you as a certificate authority. Hence you probably want to use a well known CA in production. If you don’t already have a preferred CA, then I would recommend taking a look at Let’s Encrypt. Well, one of the authoritative nameservers lagged behind a bit, so took wee bit longer ... But all machine time, not human time ... One command, and done - DNS challenges received, pushed out to all the authoritative nameservers, verified as present there, then continued to having letsencrypt.org validate 'em, then removed all those challenges from DNS that were temporarily put in place. E.g. You don't have to give cert team unrestricted access to DNS.
