  Alternatively - bumble.com has a facility to find friends near you. It's an app. It's like tinder, but its not for dating or hook-ups, it's to find platonic friends.   Especially for women, I reccomend Bumble since it's a 'female led' company and they have it so men can't send messages first. Yes there is tinder-style swiping, but if you match with someone, only the woman can initiate conversation.
